What are YOUR favorite gourmet popcorn flavors?
My friends and I LOVE having tasting parties. We’ve done blind tastings of various vintages of Merlot, compared gourmet snacks of all kinds, and scooped different brands of vanilla ice cream—all in the name of delicious fun. Last weekend, we gathered together to taste POPCORN!
We had two goals for the evening: First was to guess the name of the flavor you were eating. Second, choose your favorite! We got the party started with Popcornopolis’s Massive 18-Flavor Sampler Box. Here, we had all their gourmet popcorn flavors in one place, so it couldn’t have been easier!
Our first task was to label sticky notes with numbers 1-18. These would refer back to our 18 flavors of popcorn. We affixed each note to a small paper plate. Then, we created small notecards and numbered them 1-18, too. These were the tasting notes where we would write down our impressions of that particular popcorn and take a guess at its flavor name.
Next, my friends looked the other way, as I began pouring the different flavors of popcorn onto the plates. (Since I'm already familiar with the deliciousness that is Popcornopolis, I wasn't going to be guessing that evening.) I had previously assigned each flavor a number, so i knew which was which. When I was all done, it looked so tempting!
“Is this two different flavors?” asked one person as she munched a handful of Cheddar & Caramel.
“This one tastes like creme brûlée,” said another about Zebra Popcorn. (Zebra is actually our world-famous caramel confection drizzled with white and dark confectioner’s chocolate.)
“This one’s warm and toasty,” said somebody else about Coconut Bliss, a tropical paradise of caramel and shredded coconut.
Everyone busily scribbled opinions on their notecards.
Some popcorn flavors were hard to tell apart. My friends loved the warming cinnamon that permeates both Cinnamon Bun and Cinnamon Toast. It’s only Cinnamon Bun however, that features stripes of luscious white icing.
In the savory department, White Cheddar was a favorite. Its deep cheddar flavor had my friends reaching for more, long after the “official tasting” portion of the party ended. It’s no surprise that robust Cheddar Cheese and Jalapeño Cheddar—with its south-of-the-border kick—were also front runners.

At the end of the night, we packed up what little popcorn remained, and everybody took home a small baggie of his or her favorite. Though we had planned to order dinner, everyone was satiated from popcorn. Success!
